Apple’s Release of iPhone OS4

Yesterday, Apple announced the imminent release of the iPhone OS4. Met with mixed reviews, this announcement has been the talk of the blogesphere. I believe that a smartphone, because of our daily dependency on it, has a personal connection on an emotional level with people – which is, in my opinion, a contributing factor to the emotionally-charged tweets and blog posts about it.

For a well-rounded and unbiased review, I bring you a summary of the changes, new features, comments and concerns, and resources to learn more for yourself.

Apple says, “iPhone OS 4 will work with iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and the second- and third-generation iPod touch this summer, and with iPad in the fall. Not all features are compatible with all devices. For example, multitasking is available only with iPhone 3GS and the third-generation iPod touch (32GB and 64GB models from late 2009).”

There are over 100 new features – like bluetooth keyboards, picture geotagging, books, customizable backgrounds, and the like. Some, like the new folders feature seem to be rudimentary, but they will increase the amount of apps you can have on your phone, which increases usability and functionality. Here is a summary of the most notable changes.
