Last week in Toronto was one of my fave Toronto events – PodCamp

PodCamp Toronto 2010 is a FREE “unconference” bringing together professionals and hobbyists from Toronto and the surrounding area to explore the cutting edge of new and social media. If you are an online content creator – hobbyist and professionals – who are building communities online in a variety of ways, then PodCamp Toronto 2010 is for you. Share ideas, discuss theories and learn lessons from an audience of experts. Network, network, network. All are welcome.

#favoritism
There were some wicked sessions by amazing people like Erin Bury, Heather Leson, Karim Kanji, and Saleem Khan. These Tweeps are most def worth following if you aren’t already doing so.

#Dontfeedthetrolls
There was also a really good one by Miranda McCurlie and David Bradfield on a subject that sometimes really gets to me – When Social Media Gets Unsocial.. aka trolls.

After the talk, Scott Stratten (aka UNmarketing) shared a link to a blog post he once wrote on the subject… reading it was like listening to angels sing. If you ever have issues with trolls, this is a must-read.  Oh, and if you hate trolls as much as I do, you’ll love my fave youtuber Ray William Johnson who always makes fun of trolls and trolling.

#onwiththestory
Shortly after showing up on Saturday, my dear friend and partner in crime, Jeremy Wright told me he signed us up to do a Toronto preview of our SXSW session on Twitter and Dating – aka #TwAting (not Twatting). Geeezem thanks Jer…

It was actually the best idea ever!  #thatswhytheypayhimthebigbucks

See, I’m a-lot-a-bit (read: more than a little bit) afraid of big crowds, but Toronto’s Tech/Startup/Socmed community is so nice, warm, welcoming and supportive that it was the perfect environment for a practice run. Best part? I didn’t pee myself. #smallpersonalsuccesses.

I wanted to thank everyone who attended/participated in/endured our session #cupcakesforparticipation. Thanks to everyone who tweeted such nice things about the session, my boyfriend who had to endure the references and hashtags… and most of all, Jer who.. well, did everything 🙂

I’m excited to see the PodCamp video when it’s released and I’ll obviously share when it does.

Speed dating is a relatively new concept off. The idea is that you go with the place that 5-30 persons of both sexes, and you have very little time to talk to each person of the opposite sex.
